Dog books that support animal rescue in Australia
The Dog Bookstore sells four big hardcover dog books, $150 each, made by Living Image Photography with real Australian dogs and their families' own stories, and every one raises money for Australian animal rescue. For the Shoot the Dog books, each family's $100 participation fee went in full to a rescue group, and a share of the profit from the books goes to the rescues too. German Shepherds of Australia, Volume One has raised over $22,000 for German Shepherd Rescue Victoria, and across the books more than $100,000 has gone to Australian animal shelters.
The four books, and who they help
All four are big square hardcovers in full colour, about the size of a vinyl record sleeve, with a few lines from each dog's family beside every portrait. Fair warning if one is a present: they will not fit through a letterbox slot.
The three Shoot the Dog books help a wider circle. Every family photographed for Shoot the Dog paid a $100 participation fee, and all of it went directly to an animal rescue group. A share of the profit from the books goes to the rescues too.
The rescues behind the books
German Shepherds of Australia supports German Shepherd Rescue Victoria. The $100 fees from the Shoot the Dog families went to five rescue groups:
- Save a Dog Scheme
- German Shepherd Rescue Victoria
- Amazing Greys
- Pet Medical Crisis
- Homes for Huskies Rescue Inc.
Across the books, more than $100,000 has gone to Australian animal shelters, to care for sick, injured and displaced pets.
